I’m drawn to portraits that convey narratives, allude to stories and explore character. Portraits that showcase uniqueness and provoke an emotional connection with an audience.

Artfully combining natural and ambient light with artificial lighting, I enjoy creating portraits in an editorial style that emulates the storytelling photography found in professional and lifestyle magazines. I take full advantage of the creative scope of working on location. Meaningful, striking or even evocative locations and backgrounds can add a richness of place and time, or a certain feel or emotional association. The ability to recreate studio-quality lighting on location also opens up opportunities for classic, engaging headshots with simple or hand-painted canvas backdrops.

LinkedIn headshots, personal branding photography, creative editorial portraits, or actor headshots; I’ll challenge you to rethink how you portray yourself. Editorial portraiture rarely follows the rules.

What Others Are Saying

“Gary was fantastic. His thoroughness, enthusiasm and willingness to go the extra mile far exceeded our expectations, and meant the experience - as well as the outcome - were exceptional. He was an absolute pleasure to work with, and the end result was even better than we had hoped. I would wholeheartedly recommend him.”

A Few Things People Ask Me

1. What kinds of headshots do you offer?
I photograph LinkedIn headshots, personal branding portraits, editorial-style images for entrepreneurs and creatives, and actor headshots. My style suits leaders, performers, musicians, and anyone looking to express character and confidence. I’m also often commissioned to create portraits that celebrate life-defining moments or personal achievements—many of which are printed and framed as lasting wall art.

2. Where is your studio located?
I’m based in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and work across nearby towns including Berkhamsted, Tring, Chesham, Harpenden, and Watford. I often shoot on location and have great access to local historic buildings if you're after a more refined or heritage setting. A dedicated creative headshot studio is also set to open in Hemel Hempstead in 2026.

3. How long does an individual headshot session take?
That depends on what you need—but I keep things relaxed and never rushed. For actor and personal branding headshots, it’s best to allow several hours so we can shape something with care, confidence, and intention.

4. What are ‘Life Moment’ portraits—and who are they for?
‘Life Moment’ portraits mark a meaningful time in your life—whether it’s a personal achievement, major life shift, or something you’re simply proud of. Think graduation, a new chapter, a milestone birthday, or even your bond with a pet.

Each session is relaxed and creative, shaped around your story. Shoots can take place on location or with hand-painted backdrops, and the final portraits are designed to be displayed, gifted, or shared online. It all starts with an informal discovery chat—often over coffee.
