Le 102 — Finding Your Own Way of Saying Things

Headshots Matter Associate Member Mike Jean-Baptiste, a portrait photographer in Montréal, has recently begun something very cool called Le 102.
The name comes from Mike's new studio at 9590 Henri-Bourassa Est, local 102. To mark this new chapter, Mike has set himself the task of creating 102 portraits, working with both film and digital photography.
But there's another part of the project that caught our attention. Mike has also begun writing about it.
When we asked him about the blog, he explained that it isn't simply there to document the photographs.
“The blog is really a gesture to learn how to commit to a daily task and find my voice through it. An exercise in saying things my way.”
We love that idea!
Finding your own voice as a photographer isn't necessarily something that happens easily or all at once. Sometimes it comes from making the work, showing up again tomorrow (and the next day), paying attention to what interests you—and finding your own words for it along the way.
With Le 102, Mike is giving himself room to do exactly that.
There will eventually be 102 portraits. There's a theme connecting them, although Mike isn't giving everything away just yet. In the meantime, he's writing.
